Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya has the largest collection of Catalan art spanning a thousand years; from religious frescos of the 11th century to the surrealist work of Picasso in the 20th.  Otherwise known as MNAC, the museum is located on Montjuic hill and provides a stunning backdrop for Barcelona’s famous Magic Fountain.  The pride of the collection is a number of Romanesque frescos rescued from churches in the Pyrenees during the Spanish Civil war as well as an enormous coin collection.  Over the years private collections have been added, including the Cambó Bequest containing a number of masterpieces by European artists from the 14th century onwards which includes the works of Titian, Rubens, Lucas Cranach and Francisco de Goya.
